After successful completion of this course, students will be able to define nutritional requirements in the various stages of life cycle, such as infancy, childhood and adolescence, adulthood, oldness, and pregnancy/lactating women; provide health recommendations; and recognize early and late life consequences of inadequate nutrient intake.
Course Structure
Frontal lessons. Should teaching be carried out in mixed mode or remotely, it may be necessary to introduce changes with respect to previous statements, in line with the programme planned and outlined in the syllabus.
To guarantee equal opportunities and in compliance with the actual regulation, students can ask for a personal interview in order to plan compensatory and / or dispensatory requests, based on the didactic objectives and specific needs.

Detailed Course Content
During the lectures the following arguments will be discussed:
- introduction to the concepts, definitions and approaches used to define nutritional needs and recommendations in context of life cycle stages;
- evidence used for making recommendations;
- nutrition during infancy, childhood and adolescence: nutritional requirements with focus on child development issues;
- nutrition during adulthood: focus on prevention of non-communicable diseases;
- nutrition in elderly: how to meet the nutritional needs of older people;
- nutrition during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding): nutritional recommendations, focus on maternal diet and infants health outcomes;
- health consequence of inadequate nutrient intake during the life cycle.
