Imaging diagnostic techniques IModule osteo-joint system equipment and techniques
Academic Year 2024/2025 - Teacher: MONICA PENNISIExpected Learning Outcomes
The aims of the course are: to give students an overview and most complete path of learning in relation to these matters, to promote the learning of a responsible and appropriate terminology in radiology, about operating procedures, use of equipment and auxiliaries, in association with radiographic projections and positioning of the patient, directly involve the students, any critical analysis of learning based on the implementation timetable, introduction and behaviors within the TSRM Radiology Services.
Course Structure
Frontal lessons with slide projection.
If the teaching is taught in mixed mode or remotely, the necessary changes may be introduced with respect to what was previously declared, in order to respect the planned program and reported in the syllabus.
The learning assessment may also be carried out electronically, if conditions require it
Required Prerequisites
Human anatomy, principles of general physics and radiological equipment.
General notions of Diagnostic Imaging.
Attendance of Lessons
Mandatory attendance on a weekly basis at the Catania Polyclinic PO G. Rodolico or other classrooms to be agreed upon
Detailed Course Content
The introductory part will be reserved for a general presentation and description of the course topics; the meetings will be initially structured with the completion of the required formalities (such as the certification of attendance) followed by a possible summary of the previous lessons and completed by the study of the main radiographic projections of the osteoarticular system (skull, spine, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, shoulder, upper and lower limbs) as well as the related activities (evaluation criteria, centering, manual skills, positioning maneuvers and spatial orientation of the patient, exposure parameters, common and recurring errors, devices used, recognition of the anatomical structures represented, identification of reference landmarks, other). A space will be dedicated to the most commonly used "accessory projections" (targeted, oblique and specific). Principles of CT applied to the study of the skeletal system. At the end of each individual lesson a short space will be reserved for questions, doubts and clarifications.
